BILATERAL RELATIONS BETWEEN GREECE AND OTHER COUNTRIES
IN AGRICULTURAL AND RURAL SECTOR
 
AFRICA
1. CONGO - KINSHASA
The greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food has already implemented:

-      four (4) training programmes for the native population in the Orthodox Mission in Kolwezi, concerning diversification in production, feedstuff issues and phytosanitary measures; and

-      one (1) training programme for young farmers in advanced cultivation methods.

2. IVORY COAST
In the years 1994, 1995 and 1997, three training programmes were implemented for women-farmers in production, processing and marketing horticultural products, through co-operatives.
3. MAURITIUS
In the framework of the Sectoral Protocol of Co-operation in agriculture, signed in 1997, four (4) programmes have been implemented:

-  Training women-farmers in processing fruits and vegetables, as well as in creating income through non-agricultural activities;

-  training small farmers in using residues for feedstuff production;

-  providing know-how to the Ministry of Agriculture of Mauritius for founding a Home Rural Economics Department;

-  training small farmers (men and women) in pig breeding.

It is worth mentioning that in 1999, a delegation of women – trained in the above programmes- participated to an international seminar and presented the follow-up of their two-year training.
4. UGANDA
Responding to a request made by the Orthodox Metropolis of Uganda, Greece has implemented a programme of Technical Training for the local population, concerning the cultivation and protection of maize and other horticultural products.
